Cavalry Appurtenances

Army Regulation 670-1 (Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms) defines appurtenances as devices affixed to service or suspension ribbons, or worn in lieu of medals or ribbons. They are worn to denote an additional award, participation in a specific event, or some other distinguishing characteristic of an award. (See AR 600𤾄2 for additional information.)

The following Memorandum Of Instruction (MOI) was issued by Headquarters First Cavalry Division defines the general guidelines concerning the Wear and Appearance of Cavalry Hats (Stetson, or any other appropriate brand) and Spurs. This MOI applies to all Troopers ad authorized Civilians assigned to the Division.

"As one of the Army's two on-call heavy contingency force divisions, the First Team has an on-order mission to deploy to a designated contingency area of operations by sea, air or land, conduct reception, staging, onward movement and integration; and on order, conduct combat operations and redeployment."
