Frederick I. Boudreau(x) settled in Missouri on 1856 with the purchase of a farm that he occupied until his death in 1904. The farm was at township 62 north, range 7w, section 8, just north of Monticello. Frederick's farm consisted of 580 acres. The law required that a school be set up for every area of three square miles. Frederick gave one of his acres for a school, "The Boudreau School", that opened 04 March 1858.

The first house he built was a four room log cabin, two of the rooms were upstairs and reached by a ladder through a hole in the ceiling. The log structure was ultimately torn down and replaced with a new large two story house that was still standing and occupied as of July 1975.

When Frederick first set up to farm, he owned 4 male slaves. He released them in the 1860's and gave them each 40 acres. He said it cost more to keep them after they had thier freedom than when they were slaves.

Frederick had two brothers, Louis and Charles (the youngest). Louis lived around Chicago and Charles lived in Nebraska. The three brothers would meet each year. One year they got together at Fred's house North of Monticello and decided to leave the "x" off Boudreau. Lou Boudreau the baseball hall of famer is the great great grandson of Frederick's brother Louis.
