The mission of the Special Troops Battalion, 15th Sustainment Brigade is to, on order, deploy in support of contingency operations in order to provide communications architecture and support the mission of the 15th Sustainment Brigade and to plan, prepare, execute, and assess combat service support operations within the Division area of operations. The Battalion executes RESET of organic units. It safely, efficiently and effectively integrates attached units into the Battalion's task organization and manages all subordinate unit readiness and well being according to ARFORGEN priorities. It validates and deploys individual soldiers and units as required.
The Special Troops Battalion, 15th Sustainment Brigade was a subordinate command of the 1st Cavalry Division, a heavily armored division stationed at Fort Hood, Texas as part of the US Third Mobile Armored Corps.
On 04 May 1966, the Special Troops Battalion of the 15th Sustainment Brigade was originally constituted in the Regular Army as a Headquarters and Headquarters Company and was first activated on 01 July 1966.
The Special Troops Battalion, 15th Special Troops Battalion identifies its lineage and honors from two organizations. The Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 15th Support Brigade and the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, DISCOM, 1st Cavalry Division.
The current capability of the Special Troops Battalion, no longer active unit of the 1st Cavalry Division, had been developed in conjunction with the long history and needs of the 1st Cavalry Division. It is the combination of the experienced training received by each dedicated member of the Team and adherence to the performance level and traditions of the past. Highlights of the many subsequent historical critical missions performed by members of the Special TRoops Command and the honors they achieved are summarized in the chapters that follow:
