1st Cavalry Division Band - Ft. Hood, TX |
On order, Division Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion (DSTB) deploys, supports, sustains, moves, and protects the 1st Cavalry Division Main Command Post and Tactical Command Posts in order to facilitate battle command and operations across the spectrum of conflict and provides forces and capabilities as directed in support of subordinate commands.
Although the Special Troops Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division was activated on 15 July 2005 as part of the conversion of the Division to a modular force, the unit has a lineage dating back to the formation of the 1st Cavalry Division in 1921. The Battalion was formed utilizing personnel of the 13th Signal Battalion, the 312th Military Intelligence Battalion, and the Division Headquarters and Headquarters Company.
In late August 2005, the DSTB executed its first mission: provide support to the Division Main Command Post and Tactical Command Post (forward) as they deployed to provide humanitarian relief throughout Louisiana in response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
The current capability of the Division Support Command, no longer active unit of the 1st Cavalry Division, had been developed in conjunction with the long history and needs of the 1st Cavalry Division. It is the combination of the experienced training received by each dedicated member of the Team and adherence to the performance level and traditions of the past. Highlights of the many subsequent historical critical missions performed by members of the Division Support Command and the honors they achieved are summarized in the chapters that follow:
