In summary, the listing provides for an orderly, detailed presentation of the
Order of Battle for the Direct Dupport Units, 1st Cavalry Division as
originally activated in 1921 along with the incremental organizational changes
that were made in the time interval up to the present day. The following
paragraphs detail the method of presentation.
The period of activation of a command or unit is represented by a horizontal
line starting with a numeric corresponding with the year of activation and
ending with a numeric corresponding with year of deactivation or
redesignation. Should the command or unit be reactivated in a later time
period, the time line is reinitiated on the original reference line of entry
at the location representative of the date reactivated. Subordinate units,
listed under command units are listed with numeric designations in ordered
sequence. An exception is made for those units which were reorganized and
redesignated. This numeric of the year in which the redesignation took place
is annotated by a tilde (~).
The data used in preparing this presentation was provided by the Center of
Military History, Department of the Army. The certification to the accuracy
of the assigned units and time line intervals will be conducted by a detailed
analysis of the lineage sheets for each unit. Upon confirmation of unit and
assignment/deactivation date, the entry will be annotated by the addition of
the referenced Day/Month code. It is intended that this document will be a
reference tool for future historical research activity. As such, when any
errors or omissions are detected in detailed follow-on work, the document will
be corrected and reissued.
