Introduction

The 1st Cavalry Division Support Command is a subordinate command of the 1st Cavalry Division, a heavily armored division stationed at Fort Hood, Texas as part of the U.S. Third Mobile Armored Corps. As an element of the two "on-call" heavy contingency force divisions of the Army, the Division Support Command, composed of the 15th Forward Support Battalion, 27th Main Support Battalion, 115th Forward Support Battalion, 215th Forward Support Battalion and the 615th Aviation Support Battalion has an on-order mission to deploy by sea, air or land to any part of the world on a short notice to provide combat support and combat service support to units of the 1st Cavalry Division in the areas of supply, maintenance, transportation and field services.

The history of the 1st Cavalry Division Support Command can be traced back to era of the Korean Occupation with the constitution of the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 1st Cavalry Division Trains on 22 August 1957. Units incorporated into the Trains included the 1st Cavalry Division Band, 15th Administration Company, 15th Aviation Company, 15th Medical Battalion, 15th Quartermaster Company, 23rd Transportation Company and the 27th Ordnance Battalion. Since its organization, 44 support units have either been assigned or attached to the Division Support Command. Of the currently assigned units, the most recent to join the Division Support Command was the 615th Aviation Support Battalion which was activated on 17 September 1996.

The current capability of the Division Support Command has been developed in conjunction with the long history and needs of the 1st Cavalry Division. It is the combination of the experienced training received by each dedicated member of the Team and adherence to the performance level and traditions of the past. Highlights of the many subsequent historical critical missions performed by members of the Division Support Command and the honors they achieved are summarized in the chapters that follow:
