On 20 August 1921, the Brigade was reconstituted in the Regular Army as
Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 3rd Cavalry Brigade. On 15 October 1940,
they were activated and assigned to the 2nd Cavalry Division at Fort Riley,
Kansas. On 15 July 1942, the Brigade was relieved from assignment to the 2nd
Cavalry Division; concurrently converted and redesignated as Headquarters and
Headquarters Company, 9th Armored Division Trains. The Company was deployed to
the European Theater where it participated in the Central Europe Campaigns. On

On 15 July 1963, the Company was relieved from assignment to the 9th Armored
Division; concurrently converted and redesignated as Headquarters and
Headquarters Company, 3rd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division. On 01 September 1963,
the Brigade was activated with the 1st Cavalry Division, Korea on the

Georgia and was reorganized as an airmobile unit. At that time subordinate
units consisted of the 1st and 2nd Battalions, 7th Cavalry Regiment. The 5th
Battalion was activated on 01 April 1966, and joined the 3rd Brigade in
Vietnam.

that become the third element representing the beginning of the change over
of the Division organization to the FORCE XXI configuration, "F" Troop, 9th
Cavalry Regiment, 3rd "GreyWolf" Brigade.
The current capability of the 3rd Brigade has been developed in conjunction
with the long history and needs of the 1st Cavalry Division. It is the
combination of the experienced training received by each dedicated member of
the Team and adherence to the performance level and traditions of the past.
As an element of the two "on-call" heavy contingency force divisions of the
Army, the 3rd Brigade composed of "F" Troop, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd
Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment and 1st
Battalion, 9th Cavalry Regiment has an on-order mission to deploy by sea, air
or land to any part of the world on a short notice and once engaged with the
